How we checked it against ground truth
Numbers recomputed from raw Open-Meteo archive JSON (reanalysis data, coarse grid: treat as indicative, not station records).
Try it yourself
For a family from Perth: compare rainfall for Nov 20-Dec 10 vs Dec 15-Jan 5 in Ubud, Langkawi, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, Krabi, Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore, Tokyo and Seoul. Which avoid the wet season?
Method
Pulled 5 seasons (2020-2024) of daily rainfall and max temperature from the Open-Meteo historical archive for 11 places and both windows. Flight prices and budgets were not tested.
Steps
- 11 Open-Meteo archive calls
- Averaged rainfall, wet days (>=1 mm) and max temp per window
Sites and APIs touched
- archive-api.open-meteo.com
Failure modes seen
- Reanalysis rainfall can overcount drizzle days.
- The source mixed weather with flight costs and budget, which we did not test.
